Mia hails from China and is a long-time expat. She moved around internationally for education and work to satisfy her travel bug. It wasn’t until she fell in love with Portugal 10 years ago that she decided to settle down. Before Mia was familiar with the Portuguese property market, she too, experienced foreign buyer challenges first-hand and discovered an underserved area needing tending.

Rafael is a bonafide Lisbonite. After a professional career in the psychology field, serendipitously, real estate found him while trying to help a friend buy property in Portugal. Little did he know this would become his passion and before he knew it a brand new career in real estate started and he never looked back.

Yes, absolutely. There are no restrictions on foreigners purchasing property in Portugal regardless of nationality. You do not need to be a resident or even visit the country to complete a purchase. We regularly guide clients through fully remote buying processes using power of attorney. You will need a Portuguese NIF, which we can help you obtain.
A buyer’s agent advocates for and represents you exclusively — never the seller. MOL Portugal prioritises your best interests at every step. We work independently across all agencies and listings, so we can freely search the open market for the most suitable property for you. We offer unbiased opinions, expert advice and experienced negotiation skills when it comes to closing the best deal.
In Portugal, the vast majority of agencies work for sellers — listing and selling properties on the seller’s behalf. MOL Portugal is on the buyer’s side only, which means we don’t hold listings. Instead, we search the entire market for properties that match our clients’ criteria. We’re also your single point of contact: instead of calling ten different agencies for ten different listings, you communicate only with us — we handle all external work. Beyond searching, assessing and buying, we also help plan post-transaction needs such as interior design and property management.
Yes, absolutely. We’ve specialised in helping overseas clients find and purchase properties in Portugal entirely remotely since 2019 — from the initial search to the final deed signing via power of attorney. We conduct video viewings, provide detailed property reports, coordinate all legal steps and keep you informed throughout. Many clients have completed their purchase without visiting Portugal until after signing.
It depends on your requirements, timeline and the purpose of your purchase. Typically, for investment properties with foreign clients unfamiliar with the area, it takes around two to three months from first call to deed signing — sometimes more, sometimes less. We set realistic expectations during your discovery call based on your specific situation.
Yes. A foreigner can apply for a mortgage in Portugal even if they do not live or work in the country. However, this may extend the process. If a mortgage is required, we advise allocating additional time to secure financing and will connect you with trusted mortgage brokers familiar with international buyers.
The Portuguese rental market has specific challenges for foreigners: landlords frequently require a Portuguese guarantor, contracts are in Portuguese and often include specific legal clauses, and language barriers make communication difficult.
